Beacon Falls

Things we love about beacon falls

Covering an area of 14,357 sq. km, the State of Connecticut is located in the north-eastern (New England) region of the United States.

Rich in maritime, literary, and national history, as well as the farm-to-table food movement, celebrity chefs, and enough waterfalls and state parks for the most avid outdoors folk, the Nutmeg State, unfolds in incredible layers the longer you stick around.

Matthies
Memorial Park

A hidden gem of Beacon Falls, Matthies Park is a 300-acre park with Carrington Pond in the center. The park has a man-made island with the summer home of Bernard Matthies. Matthies offers hiking, fishing, and canoe/kayaking in the warmer months. There’s also a great small playground for the kids!

Toby's pond

Developed by O&G industries as a sand and gravel operation along the Naugatuck River, the Town took possession of it in 2009. The site includes a nearly one-mile-long pond. Toby’s pond is now a clean and peaceful public pond with a wide variety of birds and fish. It is a perfect spot for fishing, canoeing, kayaking, and hiking!

Lantern ridge park

Lantern Ridge Park is a 97-acre parcel that was given to the town in 1990. It is a beautiful park and provides hiking trails and views for all residents. You will enjoy the scenic views from the top of the ridge and its picturesque wetlands.

Naugatuck River

The Naugatuck is the largest tributary of the Housatonic River, and it is the only major river in the state contained entirely within Connecticut’s borders. The 40.2-mile-long river is a popular destination for fishing in northwestern Connecticut. The Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection stocks the river with Atlantic Salmon near Beacon Falls. The river is also a well-known kayak and canoe spot for many outdoor enthusiasts. During your journey, be sure to keep an eye out for the birds, fish, and other wildlife that call the Naugatuck home!

Naugatuck
state forest

Also known as Clara O’Shea State Park, this state park features hiking trails with small waterfalls along the brook. The park was the former site of High Rock Grove, a recreation area developed by the Naugatuck Railroad from 1880 through the early 1900’s. it had upwards of 10,000 visitors a year who came to ride the carousel and to canoe on the Naugatuck River.

Recreation Complex

A great recreation facility for all ages, beacon Falls Recreation Complex features a playground for toddlers, well-groomed baseball and softball fields, 2 tennis courts, 6 basketball hoops, and a picnic area. There is also a convenient track that circles the complex.

Beacon Falls
Public Library

The library’s mission is to express the social and cultural foundations of the town and to play a leadership role in building collaborations and networks. Its roles are to serve the residents as a community center, learning place for children, and a source of life-long learning and popular materials for all residents. The library offers many services such as: book discussion groups, children’s storytime, story walks at Matthies Memorial Park, home-bound delivery, and passes to Connecticut attractions.

Family Day

Family Day is an annual Beacon Falls Summer Event. The day starts with a canoe/kayak race and a kan jam game in the morning at Matthies Park, where people can take a ride on Carrington Pond in a canoe or kayak. The day then move to the Beacon Falls Recreation Complex for an evening of music and food followed by a fireworks show.
